She was born in Whitefield, NH, August 13, 1938, the daughter of Richard R. and Priscilla M. (Bacon) Glines. She grew up in Whitefield, moving to Keene in 1952.
She received a Bachelor Degree in Education from Keene State College.
Mrs. Starkey worked for many years as a special education teacher with the Keene School District, the Monadnock Regional School District, as well as New Hope New Horizons in Keene.
She was President of the Wheelock Elementary School PTA in Keene, and Chairman of the Preschool Association at Wheelock Elementary School. She was a member of the Gordon Bissell American Legion Keene Post #4 Auxiliary. Mrs. Starkey was also a past secretary and president of the Monadnock Chapter 66 of the North American Family Campers and served for eight years as state secretary of the North American Family Campers as well. She was a past leader and treasurer of TOPS. She was a member of the United Church of Christ in Keene where she taught Sunday school for many years.
She enjoyed camping, cooking and sewing.
She is survived by her husband of 53 years, William E. Starkey, Sr. whom she married on May 27, 1960; her son, William E. Starkey, Jr. of Keene; two grandchildren, Sarai Starkey of Keene, Joshua Starkey of San Francisco; two great-grandchildren, Amirah Tarr and Gryphon Tarr; three brothers, Richard R. Glines, Jr. of Jackson, NH, Murray A. Glines of Lancaster, NH, David Glines of Raleigh, NC; four sisters, Louise M. Staples of Twin Mountain, NH, June A. Hart of Randolph, NH, Linda S. Levitt and Susan L. Pilott, both of Littleton, NH; and many nieces and nephews. She was predeceased by a son, Timothy J. Starkey, who died November 9, 2013, and a brother, Russell M. Glines.
A memorial service will be held Saturday, February 15, 2014 at 11:30AM in the United Church of Christ, 23 Central Square, Keene, NH. Burial will be in the spring in the South Village Cemetery, Westmoreland. There are no public calling hours.
