She was born in Hanover, NH, August 22, 1957, the daughter of Robert and Emily (Zappala) Pasquill.
She grew up in Northborough, Mass. attending local schools. She moved to Keene, NH where she was a 1975 graduate of Keene High School. Mrs. Symonds attended the University of New Hampshire and Keene State College where she received a bachelor degree in elementary and special education with advance endorsements in learning disabilities and emotional disorders.
A resident of Swanzey for the past thirty years, Mrs. Symonds taught special education in Hinsdale, NH, Fall Mountain Regional School District in Langdon, NH, and since 1977, was an academic evaluator for the Keene School District and SAU 29, a job she fully loved. She also worked in various part-time jobs as well.
On July 9, 1983, she married the love of her life, Robert Symonds, and on August 3rd, 2013, they celebrated their 30th anniversary with a vow renewal. Together, they raised their sons, Robert and Richard, and opened their home to niece, Erica and nephew, Scott.
Over the years, she was active supporting Bob in the Swanzey Fire Department, and the boys’ activities. She was active with boy scouts, band boosters, project graduation, and the religious education program at the former St. Anthony’s Parish in West Swanzey.
Mrs. Symonds was a communicant at the former St. Anthony’s Church and a current communicant of the Parrish of the Holy Spirit St. Bernard Church in Keene, where she served on the parish council, was a lector, and a minister of communion. She was also a member of St. Anne Sodality, serving as president for six years. Her faith sustained her in her ongoing battle with breast cancer.
In her free time, she enjoyed spending time with family and friends, reading, working games and competing puzzles.
She is survived by her husband of 31 years, Bob Symonds of Swanzey; two sons, Rob Symonds and his companion, Jamie Gray, of Swanzey, Rich Symonds of Swanzey; her parents of Bluffton, SC; brother, Robert Pasquill of Montgomery, AL; sisters, Susan Cullen and her husband, Michael, of Warwick, RI, Carolyn Durham and her husband, Jerry, and nieces Suzan Flakes and her husband, Jessie, Bonnie van Dongeren, and April Durham, all of Augusta, GA; nephew, Scott Symonds and his wife, Amy, and their daughter, Paige Symonds, of Peterborough, NH; nieces, Jackie Eno and Devon Donahue; great-nieces, Angelle Eno and Raelyn Donahue; brother-in-law, David Symonds and his wife, Susanne of Keene, and nieces, Jenny Symonds, Michelle Kovacs, and great-niece, Brooke McDonald; sister-in-law, Linda LaPointe and her husband, Danny, of Keene and niece, Erica Penz and her husband, Clyde, and great-niece, Alaura Penz and great-nephew, Quinn Penz; as well as a large extended family of aunts, uncles and cousins.
A mass of Christian burial will be celebrated Tuesday, October 21, 2014 at 11:00AM in St. Bernard Church, 185 Main Street, Keene. Burial will be private. Family and friends are invited to call on Monday from 2:00 to 4:00 and 6:00 to 8:00PM at the Foley Funeral Home, 49 Court Street, Keene.
