She was born in Brockton, MA on August 9, 1934 the daughter of Edward and Kate (MacDonald) Richard.
Janet was very active with the Keene Samaritans and was an active volunteer with several local organizations including the Colonial Theater, Girls Scouts, Parent Teachers Association, the Catholic Daughters of America and the Cheshire Medical Center. She also served as a Keene City Councilor for several terms. Jan was also a Welcome Wagon representative in the Keene area and was the owner and operator of Winning Weighs.
She is survived by her husband of 57 years, George A. Patnode of Keene; four daughters; Jan-Marie Patnode-Jennings of Keene, NH, Gayle Hathaway of Maine, Theresa Jenkins of West Springfield, MA, and Linda Patnode of Maine; a brother Robert Richard of Anchorage, Alaska; six grandchildren; Kate Jennings, Tyler Jennings, Daniel Gillilard, Jr., Brian Patnode, Zachary Jenkins and Caleb Jenkins; two great grandchildren; Jakob Simonetti and William Saltzmann. Many nieces and nephews, cousins and extended family and friends from her home town of Boston.
A memorial mass of Christian burial will be celebrated Saturday, August 9, 2014 at 11:00AM in St. Bernard Church, 185 Main Street, Keene, NH. There are no calling hours.
In lieu of flowers, the family suggests that memorial contributions may be made in her name to The Samaritans of Keene, 103 Roxbury Street, Keene, NH 03431.
