He was born February 11, 1929 in Roanoke, VA, the son of Herbert and Luzell (Armbrister) Snyder. He proudly served our Nation as a member of the United States Navy from 1948 to 1952, and was an active member of the American Legion.
On May 11, 1952 he married Madlyn “Coke” Chickering at the Walpole Congregational Church. They were married for 62 years.
He worked for many years at Central Screw Company, then later at Tidland Corp. until his retirement in 1984. Jim and his wife enjoyed spending their winters in Ormond Beach, FL, where they had a second home. He was an avid golfer, bowler and poker player. He also enjoyed watching baseball, football, golf and Nascar racing.
He is survived by his three daughters, Susan Kelley and her husband Michael of Milan, NH; Deborah Melanson of Westmoreland; and Jennifer Symonds and her husband Mark of Westmoreland; seven grandchildren: Sean, Patrick and Erin Kelley, Nicole and Katie Melanson, Kristen and Matthew Symonds; five great-grandchildren: Lily, Rose, McKenna and Caitlin Kelley and Everett Croteau; two brothers: David and Herbert Snyder of Vinton, Virginia, and several nieces, nephews and extended family members. He is predeceased by his wife, his two brothers Francis and Jack and his four sisters Eleanor, Iris, Gretna and Phyllis.
As it was Jim’s wish, there are no calling hours and services will be private.
In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to Ruck-Up Inc., 42 Knight Street, Keene, NH. 03431, a local organization which helps fellow Veterans and their family members who are in crisis, disabled, or homeless.
