James A. Patterson, 89, a resident of Westmoreland, NH passed away peacefully at the Maplewood Nursing Home, surrounded by his loving family on Friday, September 29, 2017, following a period of declining health.
He was born September 30, 1927 in Manasquan, NJ the son of James A. and Elizabeth (Brewer) Patterson, Sr. He was a 1945 graduate of Manasquan High School and went on to earn an Associate’s Degree in Accounting from Monmouth Junior College, graduating in 1947. In 1952 he enlisted with the United States Marine Corp and proudly served our nation fighting in the front lines during the Korean War. During his time served; he was commended with the National Defense Service Medal, The Korea Service Medal with 2 stars and the United Nations Service Medal.
He was a very hard-working man who was devoted to the care and support of his family. He worked for Ted Gnade Contractors for 13 years before joining Macmillin Construction where he retired in 1995 from the work force. During those years, he and his wife spent 3 winters in Louisiana working for their son in law as a Finish Carpenter. His work was flawless and complete to perfection. He also enjoyed working on various projects for his children throughout the years.
On June 10, 1978, he joined his heart, his life and his family with his love: Alice R. Alexander. The two started their lives together and he became a Father to her children. Over the years as their family grew, adding grandchildren, great-grandchildren and great-great-grandchildren, they welcomed each with love and support.
When he wasn’t working on a project around the house, he enjoyed watching football, especially the Patriots. He was also very supportive of his grandchildren in the sporting activities. Above all, he was proudest of his service to our Nation: he was a member of the VFW in Winchester and the American Legion in Keene.
He is survived by his wife: Alice Patterson of Westmoreland, NH, sons: Ross Patterson, Scott Patterson, Bruce Patterson and Leon “Bobby” Alexander and his wife Phyllis. Daughters: Sandi Gauvin and Phyllis Lane and her husband Howard, Nancy Grover and her husband Steve, Rosemary Credeur and her husband Gerald, Cindy Latiolais and her husband Bobby and Tammy Whorfe and her husband Frank, son-in-law: Robert Miner, twenty-four grandchildren and numerous great-grandchildren, great-great-grandchildren, nieces, nephews and extended family members. He is predeceased by his daughter: Janice Miner and his Son-in-law: Norm Gauvin. His sister: Mildred Williams and brothers: Charlie and Chet Patterson.
A Liturgy of the Word will be celebrated at the Foley Funeral Home, 49 Court Street, Keene NH on Tuesday, October 3, 2017 at 11am. Family and friends are invited to call on the family from 10 to 11am.
