His parents, Arthur W. and Julia G. (Smith) Bannister proudly welcomed their son into the world on August 7, 1926 in Glen Cove, New York.
James worked for 17 years as a photographer with Perkin-Elmer Corporation. He was a charter member and founder of the Long Island, NY Industrial Photographers Association, and a charter member of the Long Island Press Photographer Association. While residing in Westmoreland, he was an active member of the Westmoreland Lions Club.
He will be greatly missed by many, especially his children, James A. Bannister of Bethel, VT, Leslie J. Stevens of Bernardston, MA, Valerie McCarthy of Chester, CT, Kyra H. Bannister of Elmira, NY; and five grandchildren, Brina Pochal of Boston, MA, Will Pochal of Burlington, VT, Lisa Hanlon of Horseheads, NY, Maggie McCarthy of Burlington, and Britta McCarthy of Chester, CT. He was predeceased by his wife of 61 years, Ruth F. (Carlson) Bannister.
A graveside service will be held in the spring in the Village Cemetery, Westmoreland, at a date and time to be announced.
