He was born in Marlborough, on December 31, 1935, the son of Raymond W. and Irene (Trudelle) Croteau. He attended Marlborough schools.
Mr. Croteau was employed with Marlborough Manufacturing for over 20 years in furniture assembly. After the company closed, he had worked as a custodian and in the restaurant industry.
He married Carolyn L. Cole in a ceremony in Keene on December 17, 1966.
Mr. Croteau had an outgoing personality, always willing to offer a helping hand to others. He loved to walk, people watch and completing crossword and word search puzzles. He enjoyed tinkering with small engines, liked to watch action movies and enjoyed dancing – mostly square dancing, the jitterbug and waltz.
Mr. Croteau is survived by his sons: Alfred J. Harper, Jr. and his wife, Beverly of Alstead, Wayne Harper and ex wife Colleen of Swanzey, and Benjamin Harper and his wife, Sharon of Swanzey; his grandchildren: Sarah Hobbs, Glenn Hobbs, Racheal Lynch, Alfred J. Harper, III, Ryan Fitzgerald, Morgan Goodell, Kenny Goodell and Tommy Goodell; his brothers: Philip Croteau, Bernard Croteau and Chester Croteau all of Keene and James Croteau of Texas; several great grandchildren and several nieces and nephews.
He was predeceased by his wife, Carolyn and two sisters, Theresa Judd and Patricia Sweeney.
Funeral services for Mr. Croteau will be held at the Fletcher Funeral Home, at 10:00 AM, Saturday, November 23, 2013. Calling hours will be held on Friday evening, November 22, 2013, from 6:00 to 8:00 PM. Burial will follow the services in the family lot at Monadnock View Cemetery.
