He was born in Nelson, on September 18, 1933, the son of Don L. and Grace ( Towne ) Warner. Attending Nelson schools, he then went into the workforce helping his family in their wood business. At 16 he began working part time for the State of NH, Department of Transportation on the Road Recovery and Improvements Crew, and later was hired Full time in 1958. He retired in 1991, after over 42 years, as a member of the Road Crew in the Nelson district.
He married Joan A. Murdough on February 23, 1958, in a service in Nelson. They recently celebrated their 56th anniversary.
After his retirement from the DOT, he went to work more locally doing lawn care in the Town Cemeteries, as Sexton for the Town Buildings, and Custodian for the Nelson Congregational Church as well as other odd jobs for family and neighbors, he was always working in support of his family.
He was a longtime member and supporter of the Nelson Congregational Church. He loved his family and spent many happy hours with them in the woods hunting Rabbit, Turkey and Deer. He enjoyed watching the kids softball and baseball games, as well as those on TV.
He is survived by his wife: Joan A Warner of Nelson; his 5 children: George N. Warner, Jr. and his wife Gina of Nelson, Bruce A Warner and his girlfriend, Lee Carpenter of Nelson, Pat Thompson and her husband John of Marlow, Jeff Warner and his wife Doris of Marlow and Joann Warner of Nelson; a sister: Sally Warner of Nelson; eleven grandchildren: Meg, Matt, Mary, Becky, John, Heather, Maya, Cory, Ashley, Brittney and Jeff, Jr.; eleven great grandchildren: Troy, Tori, Julianna, Brayden, Kaylee, Tanner, Bristol, Brode, Kelcie, Annabel and Dakota; as well as many nieces and nephews. He was predeceased by: his parents, twin infant daughters, a great granddaughter: Rilee, his brothers: Don C. Warner, John Warner and Ralph Warner as well as his sisters: Helen Towne, Arlene King and Doris Warner.
A memorial service, celebrating George’s life, will be held, Tuesday, November 18, 2014 at 10:00 am at the Nelson Congregational Church, 830 Nelson Rd, Nelson, NH 03457. Burial will follow in the Nelson Village Cemetery. Calling Hours will be held Monday, November 17, 2014, from 5:00 until 7:00 at the Fletcher Funeral Home.
