His parents, Donald Oscar and Ruth H. (Smith) Plummer welcomed their son into the world on June 15, 1936, in Winchendon, MA.
Floyd grew up in Keene, NH and was a graduate of Keene High School. He received an associate degree in engineering from the New Hampshire Technical Institute in Manchester, NH.
Following high school, he joined the Air Force serving from June of 1954 until December of 1957.
In 1958, Floyd went to work as a meter reader with the New Hampshire Public Service, now Eversource, in Keene, NH. His role with the NH Public Service evolved into an administration position requiring him to move his family to his current home in Bow. He continued working with public service, setting up their training programs, retiring after 43 years of service to the company. Following his retirement, he established the Association for Retired Employees of the NE Utilities (ARENU).
Floyd’s heart always remained in Keene, and he would commute from Bow on many days for work and community involvement. Floyd was a huge supporter of the Monadnock United Way making his from donation in 1952 to the then Community Chest, the year it was established. He continued to donate every year for more than 70 years. Floyd also led the effort to expand the MUW to other communities and in 1969, he was asked to lead the effort. In his first year, he brought eight additional towns into the fold. In 1972, Floyd joined the Board of Directors of MUW serving for eight years including a year as Chair. He was active in many other non-profit and civic organizations in the Keene area.
He was a member of the International Management Council of the YMCA.
He enjoyed genealogy; loved to travel, especially after retirement, with Alaska being his favorite destination. He loved spending time with his grandchildren creating many wonderful memories together.
He will be greatly missed by many, especially his two sons, David M. Plummer and his wife, Marie, of Bennington, NH, Tim D. Plummer and his wife, Nicole, of Trumbull, CT; his grandchildren, Jennifer D. Plummer, Andrew Plummer, Sophia Plummer, Violet Plummer, Brianna Stevens, Ryan Harrington; and his nieces, Michelle Gaseau and Leslie Pellerin. His wife of 63 years, Gayl (Wagar) Plummer and a sister-in-law, Janet Gaseau, predeceased him.
Family and friends are invited to call on Friday, April 4, 2025, from 10:30 to 11:30am at the Fletcher Funeral Home, 33 Marlboro Street, Keene. A funeral service will be held at the funeral home at 11:30am followed by a committal with Air Force honors in the Monadnock View Cemetery, Park Avenue, Keene.
