She was born in Keene, NH on November 15, 1924 the daughter of Clarence H. and Rena W. (Whitehouse) Parker.
Evelyn grew up in Keene, attended Keene schools and was a graduate of Keene High School, class of 1942 and a member of the National Honor Society. She has been a resident of Keene and Swanzey all of her life.
She was employed by the National Grange Mutual Insurance Company as manager of the claims department for ten years. Following her employment there she was employed for twenty years by the school lunch programs in Swanzey at the Monadnock Regional School District and later by the Keene High School and the Keene Junior High School lunch programs until her retirement.
She was a former member of the Court Street Congregational Church, a current member of the United Church of Christ in Keene, involved in the Independent Order of Odd Fellows - Theta Rho Girls Club, and the Beech Hill Extension program which is part of the Cheshire County Extension Service. She participated in the Princess Guide Program with the Cheshire County YMCA, was a member of the Rye Pond Association, and a founder and sixty year participant of the Annual Center Pond Clambake. Evelyn was a devoted wife, mother, grandmother, and friend. She enjoyed attending and supporting her children’s and grandchildren’s programs and accomplishments, and loved to spend time with her family and friends. In her free time she enjoyed reading, baking, and researching genealogy on both sides of her family.
Survivors include her husband of 66 years, John F. Madden of Keene; two sons; Timothy W. Madden and his wife Suzanne of Livermore, Maine and Daniel T. Madden of Keene, NH; her daughter Rebecca M Treat and her husband Timothy of Concord, NH; six grandchildren; Richard Madden, Christopher Treat, Ashley Stevenson, Gregory Treat, Parker Madden, and Jennifer Treat; a great-granddaughter Hadley Stevenson; several nieces and nephews. She was predeceased by two brothers; Roy Parker and Cecil Parker and a sister Grace Richardson.
Funeral services will be held in the United Church of Christ, 23 Central Square, Keene, NH on Friday, June 8, 2012 at 11:30 a.m. Burial will follow in the West Cemetery, Bradford Road, Keene with a reception afterwards at the United Church of Christ. Family and friends are invited to call at the Foley Funeral Home, 49 Court Street, Keene on Thursday evening June 7, 2012 from 6:00 to 8:00 p.m.
