Emily L Moran, 86, died at her home in Keene NH on May 4th 2018 after several years of dementia. She was able to stay in her home having excellent care and quality of life thanks to a caring home health team.
Emily Whitney Leland was born in Boston, MA on December 21st 1931, first daughter of Amory and Katherine (Murray) Leland. Emily was named after her paternal grandmother.
Emily spent the first 12 years of her life in Norfolk MA on her family's dairy farm - “Leland Brothers”. The family moved to Chestnut Hill, MA and spent summers in Falmouth, MA. Emily enjoyed sailing and in later years owned a boat with her father.
Emily finished her Elementary in education at Newton Country Day School of Sacred Heart, she made her debut in Boston in 1948. She graduated from Manhattanville College in NY and received a MA from Middlebury College in Vermont with University of Madrid, Spain. her first working years were at First National Bank of Boston and Buck Printing.
In the late 1950s the family moved to Montclair New Jersey after visiting CT,VA and FL. Emily then committed to NYC to work for the dean of Brooklyn Law. After several years she then decided to get a Masters in Library Sciences at Columbia. When she went to work at East Orange NJ library she met John F Moran. They married March 31st, 1967, moving to Dunkirk NY where John was the head reference librarian at SUNY in Fredonia. After John retired they moved to Keene in 1989. Their much loved poodle, Chad, died shortly after the move.
Emily was preceded in death by her husband, John, in 2008; her sister Elizabeth, in 2009 and survived by her sister, Katherine of Hanover, NH and long time caring friend, Holly Rilling of Surry, NH and several cousins.
Burial service to be held, at the convenience of family, at East Lawn Cemetery in Williamstown MA..
