She was born in Keene, on August 8, 1938, to Herman H. “Zeb” and Eleanor M (Wilder) Hastings. She was a lifelong area resident, graduating with the Class of 1956, from Walpole High School.
She worked for many years as a Caregiver for Chesco.
Mrs. Miller enjoyed arts and crafts; she liked to attend local productions, plays and concerts. She loved giraffes and collecting giraffe memorabilia. She found enjoyment watching and learning about the various birds in the yard of her home, that she lived in since 1976. In her spare time she liked to do crossword puzzles, she enjoyed listening to piano music and the Bee Gees and also liked watching the Red Sox. She was very patriotic; nearly every car she owned had a flag decal on it over the years. Mostly, she enjoyed helping and giving to others. She was frequently offering assistance to various charitable organizations, she helped sponsor a child in another country and even “adopted” military troops overseas. Time spent in her yard, tending to her flower gardens was also a favorite past time.
She was a former member of the Cornerstone Baptist Church in Swanzey.
She is survived by her six children: Hollis Blood, Jr. and his wife Debbie of Greer, SC, Michael Blood and his wife Nergis of Burleson, TX, Nyomi Patterson of Keene, Danny Blood and his wife Kim of Greer, SC, Mary-Jo Parker and her husband David of Manchester and Jessie Quigley and her husband Brian of Troy; nineteen grandchildren, two of which, Sara and Michael, she raised from childhood; 24 great grandchildren; two step sons: Frank Miller and Ken Miller and his wife Lynn all of AZ; two brothers: Alton Hastings of Keene and Van Hastings and his wife Jean of Winchester; and two sisters: Jessie Hallowell of Hinsdale and Dorothy Bohannon of Northfield, MA; and her cat “Snapple”. She was predeceased by her husband Rufus O Miller, who died in 1989; two brothers: Stephen Hastings and Herman H. Hastings, Jr.; a sister in law: Sandra Hastings; a grandson: Michael; and a longtime companion Thomas Lane.
Funeral Services for Mrs. Miller will be held Tuesday, May 14, at 10:00 am, at the Cornerstone Baptist Church, 125 Goodell Ave, Swanzey, NH. Calling Hours will be Monday evening from 5:00 until 7:00 at the Fletcher Funeral Home, 33 Marlboro St, Keene. Burial will follow the service at the family plot in the Mt. View Cemetery in Troy, NH.
