Donald J. Doody, Sr. 84, a resident of Keene, NH, passed away peacefully at the Westwood Care and Rehabilitation Center in Keene, on Sunday, December 6, 2015, following a short period of declining health.
He was born August 10, 1931, in Keene, the son of Wilber and Etta (Mayou) Doody. He was a graduate of Keene High School and went on to proudly serve our Nation as a member of the United States Air Force. On December 12, 1953, he married the love of his life, Joyce H. Madden.
For nearly forty years he worked at Kingsbury Corporation in Keene. He was a very hard working man who was devoted to providing for his family. He enjoyed his time served as a volunteer fireman on Swanzey Center Fire Department. He loved listening to music and playing his guitar. He also had a wonderful sense of humor. He was gifted in his ability to create beautiful pieces of craftsmanship from wood and he was always willing to lend a hand to anyone working on a project. He loved being a “Papa” and spending time with his grandchildren and great-grandchildren. He enjoyed bowling, playing golf and keeping up with the sporting teams of New England, from Red Sox baseball to Patriots football . He was happiest when he was with the people that he loved, whether he was enjoying a family gathering or going fishing with family members and friends. He also enjoyed spending time with his many canine friends.
He is survived by his wife of 62 years, Joyce H. Doody of Keene, their children, Linda Price and her husband Harry of Marlborough; Donald J. Doody, Jr and his wife Marge of Keene, Ellen Orkins and her husband Gregory of Marlborough, Molly Melanson and her husband Bob of Keene, nine grandchildren, fourteen great-grandchildren, his sister, Alberta Ruelke of Florida and many nieces, nephews and extended family members. He was the youngest of eleven children and is predeceased by all but one of his siblings.
A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated at St. Bernard Church, Main Street, Keene, NH, on Friday, December 11, 2015 at 1pm. Burial will follow in the Mountain View Cemetery in Swanzey. Family and friends are invited to call on the family on Thursday, December 10, 2015 from 6 to 8pm at the Foley Funeral Home, 49 Court Street, Keene, NH.
