His parents, Robert D. and Grace E. (LaBelle) Allen welcomed their son into the world on April 25, 1945, in Richmond, NH. He grew up in Richmond later moving to Keene, and then to Swanzey where he has resided for the past 20 years.
Donald served for twenty-two years in the Army National Guard Reserves and was called into active duty, from November of 1963 until May of 1964.
Donald’s work career center on driving trucks delivering fuel oil, first with Elm City Oil Company in Keene for 25 years, and later for 15 years with Draper Oil in Wilton, NH.
He was a longtime member of the Elks where he greatly enjoyed playing Santa Clause at the Elks Lodge for many years. He also enjoyed fishing and spending quality time with his many friends.
He is survived by his wife of nine years, Cynthia M. "Cindy" (Rothermel) King-Allen; his sons, George A. Gaillardetz and his wife, Melissa, of Greenville, SC, Robert "Rob" Allen and his wife, Sarah, of Swanzey, NH; his grandchildren, Morgan Allen, Mason Allen, Maya Allen, Katelin Todd, Jordan Edwards, Ethan Johnson; his great-grandchildren, Thea Todd and Elsie Edwards; his sisters, Pat Forsythe of Swanzey, Cynthia "Cyn" Allen of Florida; his sisters-in-law, Jane Burroughs of Greenville, SC, Lucy Wood of Greenville, Polly Stromgren of Swanzey, Joy Castine of Hinsdale, NH; Cindy’s children, Tom Rothermel and his wife, Terra, of Fitzwilliam, NH and their children, Meghan Cole and her husband, Zack, and Hayden Rothermel; and many nieces, nephews and extended family members. His beloved cat, Missy, also survives him. His first wife, Kathryn Allen predeceased Donald in 2001.
A graveside service with military honors will be held on Friday, June 28, 2024 at 11:00am in the Monadnock View Cemetery, Park Avenue, Keene. Family and friends are welcome.
