Cynthia Johnson Watson

Cindy was born in Quincy, Massachusetts, daughter of the late Kauko and Margaret (Kjellander) Johnson. After graduating from Spaulding Memorial High School in Townsend, Massachusetts in 1954, she attended Bates College where she met and married her husband. They lived at various times in Westfield and Yarmouthport MA, Lansdale PA, Seattle WA and Fallston, MD.

Cindy was ahead of her time in the 60s and 70s by finishing her bachelor’s and master’s degrees at Westfield State College part-time while raising three young children. She went on to be a beloved elementary school teacher for many years in Blandford, Massachusetts and later in the Philadelphia area. She was a devoted and selfless person who cherished her family and friends. Cindy rarely missed enjoying her children’s various activities and was known for her amazing baked goods.

In addition to her teaching Cindy was an avid artist who won awards for her mixed multi-media works. She also devoted time to volunteer work at her church and hospital. In her younger days Cindy also enjoyed playing tennis and acting with the Westfield Little Theater Group.

Cindy is survived by two sons, David and his wife Carol Brekus-Watson of Madison, Connecticut and Bruce Watson of Bernardston, Massachusetts; her daughter Cheryl and her partner Robert Benjamin Jr. of Wilmot, NH; a brother, K. Stanford Johnson of Chelmsford, MA; two grandchildren, Brooke Aston and her husband Tyler of Middletown CT and Drew Watson and his wife Carly Pollock of Randolph VT; two great grandchildren, Wilder and Indigo Watson; and several nieces and nephews. Cindy was predeceased in 2016 by a brother, Richard Johnson.

A celebration of life service will be held at Covenant Living of Keene, 95 Wyman Road, Keene, NH on Saturday, March 29th at 10:30 AM. Burial will be private.
