Charles Raymond "Charlie" Burt 86, a longtime resident of Swanzey, NH, passed away peacefully on Tuesday, January 2, 2024, at the Bay State Medical Center in Springfield, Mass. following a period of declining health.
Charlie was born on December 30, 1937, to the late Raymond and Rachel (Lewis) Burt in Keene, NH. He attended area schools and graduated from Keene High School in 1955.
After graduation, Charles joined the US Navy where he proudly served his country for three years and was honorably discharged on October 10, 1961.
Following his military obligations, Charlie began his 45-year career working with MPB Corporation in Keene, NH.
In his earlier years, Charlie enjoyed bowling, downhill skiing, and water skiing. He was a successful motor cross racer and snowmobile racer. He was a longtime member of the Greater Keene Area Men’s Softball League, playing on the Nimrods Team.
Charlie was an avid golfer, taking many golfing trips with his friends throughout his lifetime. He was not only blessed with the forever-dreamed achievement of an infamous “hole-in-one”, but he achieved this three times at Bretwood Golf Course, where he was a longtime member. He also achieved this once at a course in Hilton Head, where he commonly vacationed.
In his quiet time, Charlie loved watching college football, the Red Sox and the Patriots, and being out on his boat on Highland Lake in Stoddard, NH.
He was a longtime member of the Keene Elks Lodge #927.
He was a loving father and grandfather, and will be greatly missed by many in our community, but more so by his daughter, Denise Vojnich of Snellville, GA; his life partner of 35 years, Natalie Landry of Swanzey, NH; his step-daughter, Jennifer Miner of Nashua, NH; his grandchildren: Myles, Annaliese, Grant, Taylor, Jarod, Alek, Grace, Jack, Sophie, Ella, Cal, Audrey; his brother, Russell Burt and wife Linda of Winchester, NH; and several nieces, nephews, and extended family members. Charlie was preceded in death by his daughter, Darlene Gagnon, and brother, Stanley Burt.
A funeral service will be held on Tuesday, January 9, 2024, at 12:30pm at Foley Funeral Home, 49 Court Street, Keene, NH 03431. Family and friends are invited to call at the funeral home from 11:00am until 12:30pm.
A burial with military honors will be held in the spring, at the Mountain View Cemetery in Swanzey.
