Carole Anne Plaisted

Carole was the second of two children, born in Meredith, NH, on April 3, 1939, to Christina and Morris Plaisted. She and her older sister Dawn grew up in the Meredith and Laconia areas, attending schools in Laconia where she graduated from Laconia High School in 1958.

Carole attended Plymouth Teachers College and earned her bachelor's degree in education in 1960. She taught Grade 1 at the Lang Street School in Meredith in 1960-1961 and grade 1 at Mechanic Street School in Laconia 1961-1962.

Carole realized that she would like to continue her education and attended Columbia University where she earned her MA in psychology and teaching and graduated in 1966.

Carole then spent the next 31 years at the Wheelock Laboratory School, associated with Keene State College, teaching grade K, 1, 2, 4, and serving as an instructor to many student teachers through the years. She taught a children's literature class at Keene State college 1975-1976. Also, she served on supervisory administrative training team for drug education at Wheelock School She was a member of the National and Keene Education Association and Delta Kappa Gamma International as well as International Freelance Photographers. She was listed as Outstanding Elementary School Teacher in Who's Who of American Women in 1973 and 1992.

As much as she loved being a teacher, she knew that it was time to step away from that profession and retire after 33 years in the classroom. She spent her remaining years traveling the US, Europe and Canada as well as reading, crossword puzzles and visiting with friends in Keene and neighbors at the Taylor Community.

Carole was predeceased by her parents: Christina and Morris Plaisted; her sister: Dawn Dearing; as well her partner of 60 plus years: Jean Corriveau.

She is survived by her nieces: Chris Dearing of Vancouver, British Colombia, Canada, Sarah Dearing of Tweed, Ontario Canada; nephew: Simon Dearing of London Ontario, Canada; and many cousins.

It is Carole’s wish that there be no viewing or services.
