He was born on January 23, 1938 in Nantucket, MA, the son of Cecil and Earla (Bickerstaff) Russell. He grew up in Nantucket and was a 1956 graduate of Nantucket High School.
In 1957, he married Sandra S. Richard in Calais, ME.
Mr. Russell was a veteran and served in the US Air Force in Japan and Vietnam from 1956 until 1965.
After his military service, he returned to Massachusetts and worked for the Spaulding Company for the next 31 years. He retired from there as the Parts & Service Manager. He, and his wife, moved to Keene 11 years ago.
Mr. Russell has been a member of the Masonic Order since 1967. He was most recently a member of the Jerusalem Lodge #104 here in Keene. He completed all phases of Masonry including York Rites and Scottish Rites.
He was also both a DAV (Disabled American Veterans) Van driver and coordinator. Mr. Russell was a member of the United Church of Christ, here in Keene, and served on various financial committees.
He is survived by his wife of 54 years, Sandra Russell of Swanzey; his two daughters Diane Smith, and husband Charles, of Marlborough and Debbie King, and husband Lou, of Jaffrey; his daughter-in-law Connie Russell of Hamden, CT; six grandchildren and 13 great grandchildren. Mr. Russell’s son, David A. Russell died in 2010.
A Memorial Service will be held for Mr. Russell on Tuesday, July 17th, 2012, 4:30 pm, at The United Church of Christ, 23 Central Square, Keene, NH. Calling hours will be held earlier that afternoon from 2:00 – 4:00 pm at Fletcher Funeral Home & Cremation Services, 33 Marlboro St., Keene, NH.
In lieu of flowers, the family asks that contributions be made to the Children's Dyslexia Center of Nashua, 200 Main Street, Nashua, NH 03060-2939.
