Arlene May King

Arlene M. King, 88 of Westmoreland, NH passed away on Tuesday, May 23, 2017 at Maplewood Nursing Home in Westmoreland. She was born in Keene, NH on December 8, 1928; the daughter of the late Arthur J. and Sylvia A. (Castor) Sharkey.

Arlene was educated in the Keene school system. She was a member of the American Legion, Post 37 in Bellows Falls, The Sons of Union Veterans of the Civil War, the VFW in Keene, and the Co-operative Extension Group in Westmoreland. Arlene enjoyed camping, knitting, crocheting, baking, hosting the family Christmas dinners and attending her grandchildren’s sporting events.

She is predeceased by her first husband, Marlie Merrill in 1966, her second husband, Edwin H. King in 1989; two brothers, Ronald and Arthur Sharkey and a daughter-in-law, Beatrice Merrill.

She is survived by a son, Marlie Merrill, Jr. of Keene; a daughter, Sylvia Dole and her husband George of Shelburne Falls, MA; half siblings, Steven Sharkey, Kenneth Sharkey Linda Gordon; six grandchildren, Marlana Merrill, Richard and Tarah Merrill, Gary and Ailliea Carle, David Carle and Laura Grubel, James Carle, Christine and Carl Swanson, step-grandchildren, Lynn, Helen and George Dole; 18 great grandchildren; 4 great-great grandchildren; as well as many nieces, nephews and cousins.

Calling Hours will be held on Friday, May 26, 2017 from 6:00 pm to 8:00 pm at FLETCHER FUNERAL HOME, 33 Marlboro St., Keene, NH. A Funeral Service will be celebrated on Saturday, May 27, 2017 at 11:00 am at the funeral home. Burial will follow at East Westmoreland Cemetery in Westmoreland, NH.
