Alice B. Foster, age 97, of Peterborough, New Hampshire, formerly of Bradford Road in Keene, passed away peacefully on July 9, 2024. She was born in Keene, January 22, 1927, daughter of Nathaniel and Ruth Whitcomb Batchelder. She attended Keene schools, graduated from Dana Hall School in Wellesley, MA, class of 1945, and from Briarcliff Jr. College in Briarcliff Manor, NY in 1947. She taught nursery school in West Newton, MA and also taught at the Perkins School for the Blind in Watertown, MA until her marriage to William H. Foster in 1951.
Mrs. Foster served on the boards of Prospect Hill Home, the Ladies Charitable Society and the Hospital Aid Society, where she was chairman of the volunteer coffee shop when Cheshire Hospital was opened in 1973. She was a past member of the Old Homestead Garden Club, the Historical Society of Cheshire County, and Friends of the Thorne. She served as a ballot inspector in Ward 5, volunteered at Cedarcrest, and at Cheshire Hospital.
Fond of theatre, she participated in several early productions of the Keene Lions Club. She enjoyed the beaches of Maine and Florida as well as ocean travel.
Survivors include Martha Moffett (Willie) of Greenbrae, CA, Sarah Foster of Cambridge, MA and David B. Foster of Newington, CT. Her husband of 53 years, William H. Foster, died in 2004.
