Robert Leroy Schmidt, 89, of Sylvan Lake Michigan, passed away comfortably in his home, June 5, 2017. Born in Lingle, Wyoming, October 2, 1927, Robert was first born son of Alex and Alma Schmidt. The family moved to Saginaw Michigan when he was still a child. Robert was a hard worker and graduated from Arthur Hill High School in Saginaw in 1944. He began his career in meat and grocery, with Bazley and Junedale Markets in Saginaw during his teens. He had a strong work ethic and eventually became the president and owner of Bazley Farm Markets in the late 1970s. At age 70, he began a second career within the funeral home industry. He started as a greeter at Godhardt Tomlinson Funeral home in Keego Harbor. Over the next 10 years, he learned many aspects of the business and is still well known within the local funeral home circles. He endeared himself to many with his humor, advice and “Schmidtisms”.
Robert was an active member with his wife Myrtle, spanning over 60 years, at Our Lady of Refuge Parish in Orchard Lake, Michigan. Above all, his passions were his Faith and his Family, which he shared generously with others.
He is survived by his wife Myrtle, of over 66 years, children Patricia Schmidt, Kenneth M Schmidt (wife Vickie), Margaret A Owensby and Colleen (the late Robbie) Schmidt, grandchildren Melissa (Mark) Spencer, Kenneth S (Kenny) Schmidt, Alexandria Schmidt, Matthew Marx, Joseph Owensby, Michael Schmidt, and Thomas Owensby, his brothers, and numerous nieces and nephews.
