Nicholas Alan Ferguson
Nicholas “Nick” Ferguson, was born August 23, 1983 in Cypress, Texas. He passed away at home on Friday, January 6, 2017.
Nick graduated from Cypress Springs High School in 2002, where he was known for his gregarious personality, contagious laughter and competitive spirit. Being a family man, Nick stayed close to home. Nick had the uncanny ability to love on the people around him. He was always there for both family and friends. Nick was a lover of football, basketball and baseball, but it was fatherhood that he cherished most. His gift for loving increased tenfold when it came to his son Carter. Nick treasured the annual field day at Carter’s school along with the occasional prank that he and Carter played on one another. Whether they were playing video games, board games or just sitting together, Nick was at his happiest when in the presence of his loving son. The qualities that made Nick such a great friend, brother and son made him an even better father.
Nick is survived by his parents Mark and Susie Ferguson, brothers Brandon and Joey (Hailey), sister Samantha (Troy and Harper) and beloved son Carter (Jessica). He will always be remembered and loved by many.
Personal Reflection
Nick was our son, brother and friend. He was so many things to so many people. Those of us that had the privilege to walk through life with Nick are truly blessed. If you knew Nick, then chances are you cried with him, laughed with him and were pranked by him on more than one occasion. As I sit and remember my dear friend, I can’t help but think of three words.
Loyal. If you look up loyal in Webster’s Dictionary, you will see a picture of Nick in the margin. As a friend, Nick always had your back. Whether in a locker room brawl because of a smart comment made by an upperclassman or on the neighborhood streets, Nick was always there to defend his closest friends. When it came to his family, he was the most loyal companion. He would walk a mile, or ten, if a friend or family member were in need. Nicholas Ferguson, Loyal to the end.
Seeker. Nick was a very deep thinker. He did not wear this on his sleeve, but when you got to know him, you could see glimpses. In those quiet moments, he would ask questions to people that were close to him. Who is God? What does God need from me? What does my son need from me? Nick was a seeker of love and he was passionate about unselfishly meeting others in their time of need. Whether he was helping comfort a friend after the loss of an animal or grieving with someone after the loss of a friend, he was always seeking to serve those who loved him.
Competitor. Picture this, a ten-year-old boy running from the kitchen as urine streams down his leg, accompanied by hysterical laughter from the peanut gallery. Can you see it? Here is the full story. Nick and Matt were always a bit mischievous (when I say Nick and Matt, I mean Nick), but when it came to competition nothing could hold them back. We were ten and couldn’t drink alcohol, so we decided to have a “Water Shot” competition. 16 shots in, we were both starting to feel the water in our eyeballs, but neither of us would concede. Disclaimer… this is very dangerous, do not try this at home. One of us would win regardless of the consequences. Nick hit 26 shots, and took off running as his shorts began to fill-up with urine. I thought I had won. Little did I know that 10 minutes later I would be in my father’s truck, peeing uncontrollably as Nick was in the comfort of his own home restroom. It’s tough to say who really won, but in retrospect, I think he came out on top. He was the fiercest competitor I have ever known.
Nick was our son, brother and friend. He was loyal, a seeker of love, and the fiercest competitor you will ever meet. Rest in peace, our dear Nick.
