Matthew Shawn Miller was born on September 17, 1971 to the late Kenneth R. Miller, Sr. and Frankie Miller in South Bend, IN. He was the youngest son of four children and graduated from LaSalle High School in 1989.
Matt began his walk with the Lord at an early age at Faith Baptist Church under the leadership of Pastor George Joseph. He gave his life to the Lord in 1995 at Christ Cathedral New Life Worship Center in El Paso, TX.
Matt attended Morehouse College and Indiana University – South Bend after joining the Army on delayed entry. He started his active duty time in April 1992 as an Army medic serving at Camp Essayons in South Korea. This is where he met his wife for life, Felisa. Matt continued serving as an Army medic at Ft. Bliss in HHC 1/43 ADA and at Ft. Riley in the 82nd Medical Company before being accepted into PA school and commissioned as an officer in 2001. Matt received his bachelor’s and master’s degrees from the University of Nebraska as a Master of Physician Assistant Studies. As a PA, Matt served at Ft. Riley in HHC 1/16th Infantry, at Ft. Hood in the 1/227th Air Reconnaissance Battalion and taught at Ft. Sam Houston at the Tactical Combat Medical Course. He deployed to Saudi Arabia twice and to Iraq in 2003, 2006, and 2010 before retiring as a Major in 2011.
Matt also has a patented invention, which was developed from his experience treating soldiers on the battlefield. The Army released the rights to The Miller Eye Shield in March 2010. It was developed by H&H Associates and is now sold as the Combat Eye Shield.
Matt was called as a minister in 1998 and ordained at Living Word of Christ Church (now Living Word International Ministries) in Junction City, KS under the leadership of our father in the ministry, Bishop Clarence R. Williams, Jr. He was later ordained as an Elder in 2003, completed the Sonship School of the First Born ministry school in 2008, and was called to pastor in 2013. With the Lord leading and guiding, Matt and Felisa started Bethany Worship Center. Bethany’s vision is to love God, live like Jesus, and help others do the same. As pastor, Matt loved taking care of God’s people, teaching the word, leading by example, and worshipping the Lord freely.
Matt always desired to build strong brotherhoods with men of faith. In the summer of 2020 he joined the Gamma Phi Delta Christian fraternity – Alpha Revelations Chapter with the intent to make a greater impact in his community.
One of Matt’s greatest joys was serving in the role of husband to Felisa and father to three young kings – Terrance, Joshua, and Caleb. He loved his family and enjoyed family time and family trips. He also loved Star Wars, Marvel and DC superheroes, and the Fighting Irish of Notre Dame. He loved helping people naturally and spiritually. There was rarely a favor asked that was too big. He loved music from an early age and had a playlist for every situation. His love for music developed into a love for worship and singing praises to God. In worship was his favorite place to be. Matt hoped to be remembered as someone who loved God, loved God’s people and his own family.
Matt is preceded in death by his father, Kenneth R. Miller, Sr. and his brother, Denny Ray Miller.
Matt leaves to cherish his memory and honor his life his wife of 29 years, Felisa; three sons, Terrance, Joshua, and Caleb; his mother Frank L. Miller; two brothers, Kenny Jr. (Selena) and James (Darlene). Mother-in-law, Hallie Hearld and sister-in-law, Latoya Hearld; three godchildren, Ashley Howell, Rozlynn Ross and Raiden Ross; three nieces and 13 nephews; 2 great-nieces and 1 great-nephew; loving aunts, uncles, and cousins; the Bethany Worship Center family and a host of relatives and friends.
