April 2, 1946 – April 7, 2025
Mary Francis Cruz, a devoted mother, grandmother, daughter, sister, and dear friend to many, passed away peacefully on April 7th, 2025 at the age of 78. She was born in Rockford, Illinois, on April 2, 1946, to Carmen and Maurilio Cruz.
A proud graduate of Rockford West High School, Mary loved sharing new recipes with her mother and sisters—simple joys that became cherished family traditions. She was employed at Amerock for many years, where her dedication and strong work ethic left a lasting impact.
In 2008, Mary relocated to Katy, Texas, to be closer to her children and grandchildren. She embraced her role as a grandmother with immense love and was an active, caring presence in their lives.
Mary is survived by her loving children: Adolfo (Guyo) Cantu Jr., Carmen Cabrera, and Theresa Anduiza; her beloved grandchildren: Venissa Cantu, Xavion Anduiza, and Olivia Anduiza; her mother, Carmen Cruz; and her sisters: Consuelo Morales, Olivia Cruz, and Theresa Gregorcy (Perry). She also leaves behind many nieces, nephews, cousins, and friends who were touched by her kindness. She held a special lifelong bond with her cousins Maria and Ernest Balderrama.
She was preceded in death by her father, Maurilio Cruz; her brother, Maurilio Cruz Jr.; and her cherished daughter, Rosita Cantu.
As a young woman, Mary loved dancing and took great pride in performing traditional Mexican folk dances—a love she shared with her children. She was honored as Queen of The Hidalgo Society of Rockford, a title that spoke to her elegance and community spirit.
Later in life, Mary became a passionate and competitive dart player, participating in both local and national tournaments through the TBI Dart League. She also found joy in quieter moments—reading, coloring, and listening to her favorite Christian and Mexican music.
Mary was known for her vibrant spirit, unwavering compassion, and deep sense of loyalty. She offered her support freely, especially to others who were living with the same lung condition she faced—always just a phone call away, always ready to listen and care.
Her legacy of love, strength, and generosity will live on in the hearts of all who had the privilege to know her.
In accordance with Mary’s wishes, there will not be a formal funeral service. However, her family in Rockford, Illinois, will host a celebration of life this summer to honor her memory.
