After a short illness, It is with profound sadness that we announce the passing of Mark James Thaler of Katy, TX on July 8, 2024, at the age of 70. Born on December 28, 1953, in Covington, Kentucky, Mark was a beloved husband, father, grandfather, son, brother, uncle, and friend.
Mark is survived by his devoted wife of 47 years, Kim Thaler; son and daughter in law, Mark Anthony Thaler (Shawna); and cherished grandchildren, Abigail, Peyton, Samantha, Nikki, and Jordan. He is also survived by his Mother, Mary Jane Thaler; brothers, Gerard Thaler and Fr. Joe Thaler; sister, Linda Stambaugh, nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by beloved son, Jeffrey James Thaler; father, Joseph Leo Thaler; and sister, Diana DeVore.
Growing up in Northern Kentucky, Mark attended Covington Catholic High School and later graduated from the University of Kentucky. He married the love of his life, Kim, on June 11, 1977. After a few years, they relocated to Texas, where Mark began working for Cintas Corporation in 1982. He held various leadership roles throughout his career and retired as a Production Director in 2019, demonstrating dedication and hard work that left a lasting impact on his colleagues and the company.
Beyond his professional life, Mark loved spending time with Family. He loved playing basketball, golf, racquetball, biking, and working out at the gym. He loved history shows, sci-fi, and stock trading. He was a jack of all trades and passed down his knowledge the way his father passed down to him. He enjoyed watching all things sports, especially if it involved the Kentucky Wildcats! He also took every opportunity he could to cheer on his granddaughters from the sidelines with whatever they were doing. He absolutely loved watching them grow up and seeing all their accomplishments.. His faith was extremely important to him, and he was devout Catholic and a lifetime member of the Knights of Columbus. His kindness, generosity, and warm spirit touched the lives of many, making him a pillar of strength and a beacon of light to all who knew him.
Visitation will be held on Wednesday, July 17th at 5-8pm at Katy Funeral Home with a Rosary at 7pm. A funeral service will be held on Thursday, July 18th at 11 am at Epiphany of the Lord Catholic Church. In lieu of flowers, the family requests that donations be made to Maryknoll Fathers and Brothers/Fr. Joseph Thaler in Mark's memory or any charity of your choice.
Our rock will be deeply missed, but forever remembered in our hearts. May he rest in peace.
