Marilyn Ross Jackson Shaw died at home in Fulshear, Texas, on July 21, 2015, at the age of 84. She was born December 28, 1930, in Winnfield, Louisiana, graduated from Louisiana Tech University in 1952, married Robert Burns Shaw, and thereafter resided in Winnfield, Metairie, and Covington, Louisiana and Houston, Katy, and Fulshear, Texas. She was preceded in death by her husband, her parents Shirley Glen Jackson and Marion Pugh Jackson, and her sister Sara Jackson Shell.
She is survived by her brother, John Glyn Jackson; her children, Elizabeth Lee Shaw Bennett and husband Jack, Sarah Ann Shaw Hennan and husband Neil, Franklin Glen Shaw and wife Lee, and John Robert Shaw and wife Daryl (Angel); her grandchildren, Andrew Ross Bennett and wife Alexandra, Robert Jackson Bennett and wife Ashlee, David Lee Henann, Nicholas Ryan Shaw, Spencer Lee Shaw and wife Hollyn, Samuel Walker Shaw, Franklin Jackson Shaw, Ross Hayward Shaw, John Mason Shaw, Edward Frietag and wife Margo, and Troy Frietag-Shaw and wife Shelah; great grandchildren Ashley and Christopher Frietag-Shaw, Jackson Lee Bennett, and Beatriz Bennett, and loving nieces, nephews, cousins, great nieces and nephews, and friends. She will be greatly missed by them all.
A teacher and homemaker, she was active at her children’s schools, in their various sports and activities, the Girl Scouts of America, and the lives of youngsters. A believer in Jesus Christ, she regularly attended and participated in church and church activities, leading numerous Sunday School classes and being a faithful member of the United Methodist Women. In Winnfield, she was a member of the Winn Parish Library Board and the Readers’ Review and teacher of the Irene Wood Sunday School class at Winnfield First United Methodist Church. She last attended St. Peter’s UMC in Katy, Texas, where she was a member of the Heritage Sunday School Class.
Visitation for family and friends in Texas will be held at 2:00 p.m., with a memorial service at 3:00 p.m., on Thursday, July 23, 2015, in Katy, Texas, at Katy Funeral Home, 23350 Kingsland Blvd.
Visitation for family and friends in Louisiana will be held from 5:00 p.m. to 7:00 p.m. on Friday, July 24, 2015, in Winnfield, Louisiana, at Southern Funeral Home, 202 E. Lafayette St., with a memorial service and internment on Saturday, July 25, 2015, at 11:00 a.m., at First United Methodist Church of Winnfield, 300 W Main St.
