Leroy Smith was born on January 6, 1946 in New Orleans, Louisiana. He is the second eldest of seven children born to the union of the late Daniel and Bertha Smith. Our beloved Leroy departed this earth on November 15, 2019.
Leroy graduated from Worthing High School and served his country as a Marine in the United States Marine Corps. After serving in the USMC he worked as an electronic technician for the Department of Veteran’s Affairs for over 30 years. He recently retired spending his free time visiting with his dear friends and family. Leroy was a lover of the arts and literature. He was known for being well read and his great personality. Leroy was everyone’s friend, always lending a hand when needed and making friends with everyone who crossed his path. To be in the same room as him was a blessing, always making life fuller by sharing his joy of life with others.
Leroy Smith was preceded in death by his mother and father; his brothers, Arthur Smith and Bernard Smith; his sisters, June Smith and Dorothy Smith-Williams. He leaves to cherish memories his loving wife of 35 years Margaret A. Smith; brother Dordie Smith and sister in-law Iris Smith; sisters, Joyce Walker and Loretta Felder and brother in-law Bo Felder; beloved children, Tahira Knight-Zaluske and son-in law Walter Zaluske, Najah Knight; grandchildren, Xiamara Zaluske and Xyrus Zaluske; Step-children, Richard Jones Jr, Cary Jones, Minyarn Jones-Ellis and husband David Ellis, Misty Knight- Soderberg, Paris Knight and their children and grandchildren. Leroy leaves behind many friends, nieces and nephews who will cherish their time spent with him.
