James Sweeney 75 died peacefully on December 7, 2015 surrounded by family and friends at North Cypress Medical Center. He courageously fought cancer for 30 years. Born in Scranton Pennsylvania and raised in Baltimore Maryland. At a very young age he joined the Air Force after which he continued to serve his country in the US Army. In 1964 he married Gloria, the girl down the street, who would become the love of his life and constant companion for the rest of his life.
He served two tours in Vietnam as a combat Military Policeman and received the Purple Heart citation for wounds he received. He continued serving in the Army as a CID agent, obtained a college degree and was honorably discharged after 20 years of service.
In 1981 the family moved to Houston and began his career with ConocoPhillips as an investigator retiring in 1999. He was a member Saint Edith Stein church and before that he attended Saint Elizabeth Ann Seton Church for 20 years. He was an avid golfer and was a member of Willow Fork Country Club.
He is survived by his beloved wife Gloria, brother William, sister in law Mary, brother Patrick, sister in law Gloria, extended family Bea and Gus Garcia and numerous nieces and nephews.
A visitation is planned for Monday December 14, 5pm to 9pm at Katy Funeral Home 23350 Kingsland Boulevard Katy TX 77494, with rosary recited at 7pm. Mass celebration Tuesday December 15, 10:30 am at Saint Edith Stein Church 3311 North Fry Road Katy TX 77449. Burial to follow at Houston National Cemetery 10410 Veterans Memorial Dr. Houston, TX 77038.
