Gary Duane Fisher, son of Waldo and Mary Elizabeth Fisher, was born August 11, 1934 in Phillips, Texas and passed away on December 7, 2016 at the age of 82. He graduated from Phillips High School in 1952 and then from the University of Texas in 1956 with a BS degree in Chemical Engineering and later received a PhD in Chemical Engineering from Johns Hopkins University. Gary and Adelaide Ruth Berrien were married on February 3, 1956 in Borger, Texas.
Gary served in the Navy from 1956 to 1961 where he supported the design of the USS Nautilus submarine and USS Enterprise and left as a Lieutenant. After serving in the Navy, Gary became a professor at Rice University and taught Chemical Engineering. After a few years of teaching, he partnered with other leaders to start Chemshare in the early 1970’s where he had a long successful career until he retired several years ago.
Gary was an avid tennis player ranked in both singles and doubles with so many awards that he began using them as serving dishes. He enjoyed snow skiing, sailing and traveling with many family trips to Hawaii. He played the piano throughout his life and the clarinet in high school. Gary was active in the church and choirs and was a deacon and elder at St John’s Presbyterian Church until he moved out to Fulshear in 2006 to be closer to grandchildren when he became very active in First United Methodist Church.
Gary is preceded in death by his parents. He is survived by his wife Adelaide Ruth Fisher; sister Beverly Wise; son and daughter-in-law Gary Fisher Jr. and Maureen Reading; daughter and son-in-law Kathryn and Randall Cedeňo; son Scott Fisher; grandchildren Mary Lauren Fisher, Katelyn Reading, Michael Cedeňo and Thomas Cedeňo.
