The youngest of three children, Doug was born October 3, 1963 in West Islip, New York to William (Bill) Koch and Doris (Miller) Koch. Doug grew up in North Babylon, New York and graduated from North Babylon Senior High School in 1981. After graduation, he enlisted in the Army and served in Germany, Fort Hood, Fort Benning, Fort Dix, and Fort Huachuca. During his twelve years of military service, he received the National Defense Service Medal, Army Achievement Medal, Army Good Conduct Medal, Army Service Ribbon, Overseas Service Ribbon, Noncommissioned Officer Professional Development Ribbon, Army Superior Unit Award, Army Lapel Button, and the Sharpshooter Badge M16 Rifle. In 1987, Doug’s son with former wife Amy (Zimmerman) Chrisman, Joel William Koch of Katy, Texas, was born. Doug had a daughter, Alexis Renee Koch of Katy, Texas, in 2006 with Keri Hilburn.
After serving in the Army, Doug worked in logistics for Albertsons, Palmer Logistics, and most recently Medline. Doug was a comic book collector and gifted artist. He loved all things Marvel and was inspired by the Hulk during his cancer battle. His sarcasm and sense of humor were things he enjoyed sharing. Despite not having lived in New York since the 1980s, Doug’s love of and loyalty to all things New York was strong. Two highlights of the past year were taking daughter Alexis to see Billy Joel, his favorite musician, perform live and traveling back to his beloved New York for his high school reunion.
Doug was preceded in death by his grandparents Henry and Louise (Meyer) Koch and George and Prudence (Goodall) Miller and father William (Bill) Koch.
Doug is survived by: his mother Doris Koch; sister Patricia (Patty) Meyers, her husband Scott, and their children and grandchildren; brother William (Billy) Koch, his wife Sharon, and their children and granddaughter; son Joel Koch and wife Whitney; daughter Alexis Koch and her mother Keri Hilburn; and former wife Moya (Power) Koch and her four daughters.
A memorial service will be held at Katy Funeral Home on Saturday, November 26, 2016 at 11:00 a.m.
