December 16. He was at home, in his own room, being loved on by mom, children, grands, and
great-grands....plenty of kisses, hand holding, and hugs going around. It is a memory for
always!
Doug was born April 5, 1928 in Yonkers, New York to James and Gertrude Jeffrey. Doug spent
many years in Katy, had a 9 year stint in Indiana, and returned to Katy 4 years ago. He
graduated from Christopher Columbus High School upon his return from his tour in the Navy
during World War II. Doug asked the girl across the street out on a date (they had been
neighbors all their lives) in September of 1947. On September 6, 1948 he married her, his sweet
Lorraine.
Doug worked in Manhattan in the garment district for Burlington Industries and their subsidiary,
Galey & Lord. In the summer of 1970 Doug moved his family to Ft. Lauderdale, Florida for a
new adventure. He became diverse in his skills by learning the Mortgage Brokering business
and then went on to an Administrative state job. He moved to Houston, Texas in April of 1979
and has called Katy ‘home’ for 39 years. His move here brought him into the banking business
and upon his retirement he was a Vice President of the mortgage department at Liberty Savings
and Loans of Houston.
He loved well, he hugged great, he had wonderful sense of humor (that he would use in difficult
moments!), he loved his wife well, his faith in Christ was deep and genuine, he loved all
children, he never met a stranger, and he was an amazing father! Doug was committed to
helping others grow in their faith and was always available to pray with you, for you, or meet
with you, anytime, anywhere!
Lorraine would like to thank everyone for your outpouring of love and condolences to her. She feels
all the love and prayers of all of you!!
He was preceded in death by his parents; brothers, Bruce, James, Wallace, and Jack: daughters,
Gayle Marie, and Maureen Frances: and one grandson, Dustin Shayne Jeffrey. He is survived by
his loving wife of 70 years, Lorraine Jeffrey of Katy, TX: daughters, Lynn (John) Yarusso of Katy, TX,
Margaret (Chuck) Riedl of Blaine, MN, Patricia Corriden of Katy, TX, and Janet King of Austin, TX:
sons, Donald Jeffrey of Katy, TX, and Robert (Kristin) Jeffrey of Folsom, CA: 23 grandchildren; and
33 great-grandchildren.
His children love him immensely, are so thankful that God chose him to be our earthly father,
have such fond and incredible memories to cherish, and will always hold him close to our
hearts!
In lieu of flowers, Doug has a great-grandson battling Stage IV High-Risk Neuroblastoma, the
family requests that donations be made to either Wyatt Crosser’s personal Caring Bridge site or
the research of further breakthrough in the cure for Neuroblastoma.
