Anne was born to parents, Peter Hoffmann and Anna Klemm, in 1942, and married Erich O. Schneider, in 1959. A World War II refugee, who fled Hungary to Germany as a very young child and an immigrant, as a young woman with three small children, to the United States, Anne overcame loss, hunger, and poverty with her husband, Erich, to live a life of many accomplishments and experiences.
Once her daughters were in school, Anne obtained a Bachelor of Science degree in Psychology, magna cum laude, from the University of Houston, in 1979. Anne next achieved a Master of Arts degree in Psychology, University of Houston, Clear Lake, in 1984, and was a Certified Substance Abuse Counselor. She worked for the Harris County Hospital System as a counselor/social worker, serving patients in distress coming in through the emergency room.
Anne assisted Vietnam veterans and victims of domestic violence as a volunteer counselor. For her exemplary service, she was named the 1987 United Way Agency Volunteer of the Year.
Anne traveled extensively to Europe and Mexico, fulfilling lifelong dreams to see Samarkand in Uzbekistan, Morocco, and Peru. In 2005, during a long visit to Vienna, she traveled with Erich to Almaskamaras in Hungary to see her family home for the first time in sixty years.
Anne loved and collected art, touring the major art museums of the cities she visited. Anne also loved classical music, opera, and was a devoted fan of the music of Townes van Zandt and his companions. Anne enjoyed hiking and foraging for wild mushrooms in the summer and skiing in the winter in the mountains of Vail, Colorado.
Anne taught her three daughters many things, including the love of cooking, baking, traditions, and, after years of frugality, finding a great bargain on a beautiful pair of shoes or piece of clothing.
Anne’s greatest joys later in life were her grandchildren. Anne was delighted as well by the birth of her first two great grandchildren during the last two years.
