Annabelle Lee Hathaway Turner was born on June 3, 1925 in Port Arthur, Texas. She was the middle child of John Benjamin (Ben) Hathaway, Sr. and Mabel (Gee) Hathaway. She passed away on January 30, 2020, at age 94, in Katy, Texas. She graduated from Thomas Jefferson High School in 1942 and attended Port Arthur College. Annabelle married Henry Allen Turner, Jr. on August 31, 1946. They were married 51 years.
Annabelle and Allen enjoyed fishing and camping, spending most vacations either at the beach or on driving vacations to state and national parks. They spent many happy weekends at Sam Rayburn Lake camping with friends and neighbors and fishing at every opportunity. They also enjoyed collecting seashells, and displayed them in their home.
Annabelle and Allen lived in Port Arthur for many years, moving to Silsbee, Texas to be close to family in 1994. Anabelle moved to Katy, Texas in 1998 after Allen’s passing in 1997. She was a member of Lakeview United Methodist Church of Port Arthur, First United Methodist Church of Silsbee, and St. Peter’s United Methodist Church of Katy.
Annabelle worked in the family grocery store, and later for Port Arthur ISD as a library aide. Annabelle was a consummate cook and baker, specializing in cakes and desserts. She made birthday cakes for all family members, and wedding cakes for many.
Annabelle was preceded in death by her parents, her sister Mary Eleanor Tucker and her husband Charles L. Tucker, her brother J. B. Hathaway, Jr. and his wife Laura Ann Hathaway, and her husband Henry Allen Turner, Jr. She is survived by her son, David Turner and wife Vonda Perritt-Turner, grandchildren Stephen Turner and wife Danielle and their son Ethan Turner, and granddaughter Stephanie Turner and fiancé Maria de la Piedra, nieces and nephews Cheryl Roy and husband James, Ben Hathaway and wife Barbara, Jan Sellers and husband Ronnie, John Hathaway and wife Sara, Jill Phipps and husband Lester, and many great nieces and nephews. Other close family and friends include Linda Worden and Suzy and Mike Usoff. Suzy was like a daughter to Annabelle and Allen, and the big sister that David never had.
