APRIL 10, 2025
Our beloved Alice has departed this life on March 23, 2025, at the age of 69. Alice was a devoted wife, a nurturing mother, a proud grandmother, and a cherished great-grandmother whose love knew no bounds.
Alice was born on May 5, 1955, in Oakland, California, to her loving parents, Elizabeth Marshall Simpson-Smith and James L. Simpson Sr., both of whom preceded her in death. She was also blessed with the love and guidance of her Godparents, Frances and Ed, who meant the world to her and played an integral role in her life.
In 1981, Alice met and married the love of her life, Cecil Poore, and together they built a home filled with laughter, warmth, and unwavering love. As a proud and devoted mother, she raised three children: Renee Goldsby, the late Johnnie “Junior” Matthews, and her adopted son, Elijah Resino. Her love extended even further to her grandchildren and great-grandchildren, each of whom she adored and cherished deeply.
Alice’s family was the center of her world. She was a devoted sister to her siblings: her late sister Loretta Simpson, and her surviving siblings Lorraine Haskins, Janice Butler, James L. Simpson Jr., and Dennis Smith. She also found immense joy and pride in her grandchildren: grandsons Devon and Brandon Shannon, Devarie Goldsby, Buggy, Keymar, Miaki, and granddaughters Aleija (Mocha) & Alaysia (Nella) Matthews, Tatiyana Goldsby, Angelica Matthews, and Aniya, Yami, Nijamera and her treasured great grandchildren, granddaughter-n-love Mrs Laura Goldsby, Mother-n-Love Mary Poore and herring host of nieces, nephews, cousins and in-laws.
Alice’s kindness, wisdom, and unwavering faith were the foundation of her life. She was a beacon of strength, offering words of encouragement and acts of love that will never be forgotten. Whether through her nurturing spirit, her comforting presence, or her heartfelt laughter, she touched the lives of all who knew her.
She is now reunited in eternal peace with her beloved son, Johnnie “Junior” Matthews, and her sister, Loretta Simpson. She leaves behind a family who will forever cherish her memory, carrying her love and legacy in their hearts.
Rest in peace, dear Alice. Your love and light will shine in our hearts forever.
