Zelma Florence Macko, 97, Independence, MO, passed away March 19, 2012. Visitation will be from 12:00-1:00 p.m. followed by funeral service at 1:00 p.m. Friday, March 23, at Mt. Moriah & Freeman Funeral Home, 10507 Holmes Rd. Burial in Floral Hills Cemetery, 7000 Blue Ridge Boulevard, Kansas City, MO.
Zelma was born July 16, 1914 in Henson, MO, daughter of Jobe and Florence Steward. She married Charles M. Macko. Mrs. Macko was a member of Broadway Baptist Church in Oak Grove, MO. She was affectionately known as Granny to all who knew and loved her. Zelma spent her life caring for her family and extended family. Her passions included spending time with family, cooking, baking, and sharing time with friends. She had a love for cardinals and her collection of these figurines spanned over many years.
Zelma was preceded in death by her husband Charles Macko, daughter Geneva Lee Westerman, and two sons Jackie C. (Tony) Macko and Alvin E. Macko. She is survived by daughters Anna “Sue” Sullivan, Independence, MO, Brenda S. Rojas (Bob), Kansas City, MO, and Melvin R. Macko, Raytown, MO, twelve grandchildren, eighteen great-grandchildren, three great-great-grandchildren, and adopted daughter Betty Diffey.
