William C. Watson, age 88, of Raymore, Missouri, passed away January 18, 2012 at St. Joseph Hospital. Bill was born April 2, 1923 in Marceline, Missouri, to Victor Newton and Maggie Ellen Watson. He married Frances (Funkhouser) Watson on February 12, 1946. He played football for the University of Missouri Tigers, served in WWII, Korea, where he was a POW for 2½ years, and Vietnam before ending his 26 year career in the Army. He served as Mayor of Peculiar, Missouri and recently resided at Foxwood Springs Assisted Living in Raymore, Missouri. He is survived by his five children Sandra Hunt, Mike Watson, Richard Watson, Jim Watson and Cindy Meyer; two sisters Oneita Funkhouser and Jean Schaffner; 16 grandchildren and six great-grandchildren. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by one sister Candy Funkhouser. Visitation will be held from 6:00-8:00 p.m. Thursday, January 26, with funeral services at 11:00 a.m. Friday, January 27, at Mt. Moriah & Freeman Funeral Home, 10507 Holmes Rd. Interment will follow at Fort Leavenworth National Cemetery. A memorial service will be held at Foxwood Springs at a later date. Contributions can be made in memory of William C.
