William R. Martin, 63, of Independence, MO passed away Wednesday June 9, 2010 at home after an intense fight with pancreatic cancer. Memorial services will be 12:30 PM Monday June 14, 2010 at McGilley Antioch Chapel with a visitation from 11:30-12:30 PM. Inurnment in Leavenworth National Cemetery, Leavenworth, KS.
William was born July 16, 1946 in Kansas City, MO. After graduating from Paseo High School in 1964, he joined the USMC, serving in Vietnam and attaining the Rank of Sergeant. After being honorably discharged he joined the Kansas City, MO police department. During his 25 years with KCPD he worked as a patrol officer, FTO, acting sergeant, bomb and patrol dog handler, SWAT team member, homicide detective, and vice squad detective. After “retirement” he also served as Police Chief of Avondale, MO, as Security Director for the KCMO Convention Center, and as an Investigator for the Jackson County Prosecutors Office. He was a member of American Legion Post 21 and VFW Post 1000. He is survived by his wife Kim; children, William R. Martin, III, Lori Bigard, and Angela Veach; grandson Michael Veach and was preceded in death by granddaughter Melodie Veach. Condolence may be made at www.mcgilleyantiochchapel.com
