Wilbert Oliver Sisson, known to his family and friends as "Sonny", was born on October 12, 1942 in St. Louis, Missouri. He was preceded in death by both parents, Herman and Opal Sisson.
Will was educated at Soldan High School in St. Louis, Missouri. He went on to attend Friends University, where he obtained his Bachelor of Science for Business Management and his Master of Science in Management.
Will met his wife, Roberta at the age of 11, at Eastern Star Baptist Church in St. Louis, Missouri. They were then married on May 3, 1964, and were happily married for 60 years. To this union were born 2 children, Clifford "Tony" Sisson and Tiffany (Sisson) Best. He took pride in being able to take care of his family. Losing his parents at a young age made him take his family relationships serious; it was his biggest accomplishment.
Following high school, Will joined the Marine Corp where he served for 20 years and retired with the rank of Captain. Following his retirement, he worked at Brinks; starting as an armed guard and worked his way up to manager. After his retirement from Brinks, he worked for the Red Cross where he also did volunteer work.
While in the Marine Corps he was Rifle Marksman and on the competition team. He carried on his love of shooting throughout his life. He had a passion for teaching gun safety, including hunter and women's safety courses. He shared his love of shooting with his children and grandchildren, often taking them to the gun range he was a member of for many years. Also, while he was stationed in Okinawa, he picked up Karate and achieved the rank of black belt.
He departed this life on July 18, 2024, and leaves to cherish his memory his wife, Roberta (Lee) Sisson; children, Tony Sisson (Verena) and Tiffany Best; 3 grandchildren, Brittany Green, Ian Sisson and Noah Sisson; 1 great-grandchild Levi Russell; and a host of extended family and friends.
A visitation for Sonny will be held Saturday, July 27, 2024 from 11:00 AM to 12:00 PM at McGilley & Sheil Funeral Home, 11924 E. 47th Street, Kansas City, Missouri 64133, followed by a funeral service with military honors at 12:00 PM.
