Wanda was born in Joplin, Missouri, on February 3, 1935, to Russell and Irene Gibson (Gideon). She met her husband and lifelong friend, Willard, at Webster Park Baptist Church in Springfield, Missouri. On September 11th, 1954, they were married and moved to Kansas City, where they enjoyed 63 years of life together.
Wanda loved her family and cherished her time with her grandkids and great-grandchildren. She faithfully prayed for her loved ones throughout her life, that they would know the peace of her faith in Jesus Christ. Wanda taught the young people, directed VBS, and sang in the choir at LinWayne Baptist Church. Later in life, she enjoyed fellowship with her Sunday School class and friends at First Baptist Raytown (Connection Point Church).
Wanda worked as a merchandise associate in ladies’ sportswear for JCPenney at the Blue Ridge Mall for 35 years. Her co-workers became a second family, and she looked forward to the Penney breakfasts and holiday celebrations with the “girls” after her retirement.
Wanda moved to Indiana in 2018 to live with her daughter and son-in-law after Willard passed away. She moved to the Heritage Pointe retirement center this past January, where she enjoyed the company of her caretakers and filled her days with stitching projects for family and friends.
Wanda was preceded in death by her parents Russell Gibson and Irene Mitchell (Gideon), her life companion, Willard, her sister Gloria O’Gorman, and half-brother James Gibson. She is survived by her sister Katie Mitchell. Wanda also leaves behind her son and daughter-in-law Marshall and Wendy Davidson, daughter and son-in-law Karen and Dennis Jones, son and daughter-in-law Mark and Sharon Davidson, grandchildren Nicholas, Peter, Whitney, Matthew, Max, Jake, and Luke, and her precious great-grandchildren Gracelynn, Milo, and Levi.
