Wanda Brooks passed away from dementia complications on Nov. 16, 2023, in Green Valley, AZ, where she lived since 2002. She was born on Feb. 16, 1934, in Marshall, MO, to Kate & Earl Wood, but raised in Kansas City, MO, where she lived most of her fun life. She graduated from Southeast High School in 1952 and in 1956 from Central Missouri State College in Warrensburg, MO, where she met Norman, who was an athlete AND she was a cheerleader.....and so the story begins.
After marrying Norm in July of 1956, she worked as a secretary for 4 years at Whiteman AF base while Norm was finishing college and teaching in Windsor, MO. They then moved to Raytown, MO where she again was a secretary and Norm was still in teaching. They then became parents by adopting Jeff, and then Kathy 2 years later.
became a high school business teacher for 21 years at Raytown South Junior & Raytown South High School where she coached the 9th grade volleyball team, plus the high school cheerleaders for several years because she loved sports.
Then she started her golfing days which, along with bridge and other card games, became her hobby. Because of their big interest in golf, they moved to Green Valley AZ, next door to long time friends, Dick and Norma Purdy, where golfing, cards, & good weather were plentiful. Wherever she went, she made many new friends because she never met a stranger, and kept tabs on many of those friends over the years.
Wanda was so proud of her son, Jeff, who lives in Phoenix, her only granddaughter, Hannah, & her great-grandson, Cooper, who live in Raymore, MO. She was preceded in death by her mother & father, step-mother Mary, her brother Gene, & only daughter, Kathy.
She leaves her loving husband, Norm, after 67 years of marriage. Abiding by her wishes, there will be no services. She will be cremated and her ashes placed in the family plot in Floral Hills Cemetery, Raytown, at a later date.
