Walter W. Mannell, 87, passed away Monday, August 8, 2011, at John Knox Village Care Center. Memorial services will be held at 2:00 p.m. Sunday, August 14, 2011 at Mt. Moriah and Freeman Funeral Home, 10507 Holmes Road, Kansas City, Missouri. In lieu of flowers donations may be made to John Knox Village Care Center. Walter was born July 15, 1924, in the Bronx, New York to Otto and Josephine Mannell. He flew 25 missions during World War II for the United States Army Air Corps flying B-24 airplanes. Following the war, Walter started a career in the travel industry in New York. His career took him to Cleveland, Ohio and then on to Kansas City where he opened his own travel agency, Mannell Travel. Walter had a passion for traveling the world and was a longstanding member of SKAL. Among his many hobbies were bowling, carpentry, and collecting/building model airplanes, and was an avid bird lover. He was preceded in death by his parents, Otto Richard and Josephine Marie (Wack) Mannell and brother Theodore O. Mannell. He is survived by the love of his life Edith Dutton, his three children Warren Mannell of New Boston, New Hampshire, Joanne Mannell-Noel and husband Fran of Bozeman, Montana and Douglas Mannell and his wife Carol of Greenwood, Missouri, sister-in-law Marilyn Mannell, nieces Leslie Eastwood, Robyn Murray and husband Ian Murray, nephew Greg Mannell and wife Katy, and grandchildren David Mannell and wife Megan and Stephanie Mannell.
