While in grade school, Boyd, along with his parents and two siblings, Lee and Bill, moved to Kansas City. Boyd graduated from Northeast High School in 1940, joining the Navy shortly after in 1942. After serving 4 years during WWII, he was honorably discharged as a Gunners Mate First Class, an accomplishment he was very proud of. At the young age of 24, he married the love of his life, Wilma Oyler, which was the beginning of a long, successful marriage lasting 73 years. This union was blessed with three children, Steve, Nancy, and Barry. He enjoyed taking his family to see new places, no matter the sacrifice. Boyd loved the Lord and was active in his church, a living example of a Christian husband, father, teacher and friend. Working with wood was not only his occupation as a carpenter, but his favorite hobby. He also farmed for a few years, while still working full time in the city. Later he and Wilma and his sons built a successful business that he retired from in 1986.
His faith strengthened him and allowed him to get through the loss of both his sons, Steve in 1987 and Barry in 2007. Boyd is also preceded in death by his parents and his brother and sister, and his beloved son-in-law, Mike.
He is survived by his wife, Wilma, his daughter Nancy Alexander, 9 grandchildren, 18 great grandchildren, three great great grandchildren, and three nieces and one nephew.
A visitation will be held from 10-11 AM, service 11 AM, on Thursday, October 29, at Fellowship Church - Greenwood Campus, 1601 W Main St, Greenwood, MO 64034. Burial with Military Honors will follow at Floral Hills Memorial Gardens, 7000 Blue Ridge Blvd, Kansas City, MO 64133.
