Virginia Mae “Ginger” Wixom, 85, of Kansas City, MO passed on Feb. 7, 2012 at Rehabilitation Center of Raymore. Mass of Christian Burial will be 11:00 a.m. on Friday, Feb. 10th at St. Francis Xavier Church, 52nd & Troost. Visitation will be 6-8 p.m. (Rosary at 7:30 p.m.) on Thursday at McGilley Midtown Chapel, 20 W. Linwood Blvd. In lieu of flowers, contributions may be made to Alzheimer’s Assoc. or Crossroads Hospice.
Ginger was born June 15, 1926 in Missoula, MT to Frederick and Ethel (Winter) Thorban. Ginger’s mother died when she was 2 years old. Ginger’s goal was to raise 6 children-she had 7. She was a parishioner at St. Francis Xavier Church from 1958-2007, was a Girl Scout leader and Unit Cookie Chairman, and worked in the Registrar’s office at Rockhurst Univ. for 30 years after raising her children. Her loves were music, painting, the Red Hat Society, and the mountains of Montana. Ginger was preceded in death by her husband, John D. Wixom, Sr., in 1988 and son, James. She is survived by her son, John D. Wixom, Jr. and wife Gaye; daughters, Kathy Marlatt and husband David, Linda Mosley, Karen Hartwick and husband John, Pam Harden and husband Lynn and Terri McCarthy. Also surviving are 24 grandchildren and 48 great-grandchildren who were her greatest joy.
