Vincent Joseph Van Camp, Jr. was born on August 4th, 1946 in Kansas City, MO to Vincent and Rita (Mandl) Van Camp, Sr. He passed away on February 21st, 2020 at his home in Blairstown, MO.
He had many nicknames, VJ, Vino, and also Vinny. He loved the great outdoors and riding his Harley on the open roads. He graduated from De La Salle High School. VJ became a Brave Mic-o-say, an honor camping organization founded by J. Roe Bartle, in 1961. He advanced to Warrior in 1962 and Fire Builder in 1963. VJ earned his Eagle Scout Award in 1962 in the Boy Scouts of America in Troop 30, Kansas City, MO, under the leadership of his Scoutmaster and lifelong friend and mentor, Paul Heathman of Osceola, Mo. Together with Paul, VJ, known as Senior Medicine Man Little Dancing Hot Spark, was one of 5 boys who started the Trailblazers, a brotherhood that now has over 800 members, serving others, mentoring youth, and giving back to our communities.
On April 13th, 1966, he was initiated as a member of I.B.E.W. Local Union 124 as a Journeyman Wireman. He was proud to be a union member and gave gladly of his time serving two terms as Vice-President, two terms Recording Secretary, two times was their delegate, and retired in 2006. He was honored for his loyalty with a 50 year pin in 2016. He enjoyed the fellowship and support of JC Cowboy Church in Warrensburg, MO.
Of all things he loved, there was nothing he held closer or loved more than his family. He leaves behind his two beloved daughters, Jody (Clint) Pearson and Debbie (Robert) Clover, grandchildren, Cody (Charity), Kaitlyn, Cole, Camden, and Levi along with sister, Gloria (Tom) Meyers. He was predeceased by his parents, Vincent and Rita Van Camp, Sr., brother, Eddie Harpo Van Camp, and granddaughter, Michaela Marie Pearson.
Celebration of Life will be held on Saturday, March 21st, 2020 at 2:00 pm led by Pastor Kevin Mannering of JC Cowboy Church with light refreshments following until 5 pm at I.B.E.W. Local Union 124 Hall, 301 East 103rd Terrace, Kansas City, MO 64114. Memorial donations in memory of VJ may be made to Trailblazer Youth Development, c/o Steve Quinlin, 1810 E 85th Street, Kansas City, MO 64132.
