Vincent O’Connor, 90, passed away Monday, December 12, 2011, at Shawnee Mission Medical Center. Graveside services will be 11:30am, Friday, December 16, 2011, at Englewood Cemetery, Clinton, MO. Friends may call from 6-8 pm, Thursday at McGilley State Line Chapel, 12301 State Line Rd., Kansas City, MO. Memorial contributions may be made to the American Heart Association or the American Cancer Society.
Vince was born April 5, 1921, in Cameron, MO, to Florence and David O’Connor. He graduated in 1939 from Cameron High School and joined the Navy in 1942, serving on several ships in the Pacific, most notably the minesweeper USS Inaugural (AM242). When his tour of duty was over, Vince worked 20 years for Harding Cream Co. where he met his wife, Carolyn. After leaving Harding, he worked for the Federal Government and retired with 22 years of service. Vince loved to watch the Royals and Chiefs play and loved to spend time with his grandchildren. He was a loving husband, father, and grandfather.
Vince was preceded in death by his wife Carolyn, his parents, and his sisters Margaret Lois O’Connor and Mary Louise O’Connor. He is survived by his stepson Jerry and wife Candy Johnson, Olathe; grandson Jared and wife Melissa Johnson of The Woodlands, TX; and granddaughter Lindsay Johnson of Mission, KS.
