Victor F. DeMaria

Victor was raised in the old Northeast part of Kansas City where he operated the DeMaria Realty Company for over 40 years. He attended the University of Missouri and served in the United States Army during the World War II era and again during the Korean War. He was active in local Democratic politics for many years and served as a delegate to the Democratic National Convention in 1964. For several years during his retirement he was a volunteer for the Little Sisters of the Poor, helping them in their solicitations for resources and visiting the residents. He was generous with the time he spent caring for his grandchildren.

The family will remember the summer trips to the mountains and fishing trips to Canada. The boys recall how their father taught them to hunt waterfowl, which they still enjoy. He was also an avid tennis player and jogger. He competed in many 10k runs and took great pride in completing a marathon at age 54. He was a lifetime 3rd degree member of the Cardinal Glennon Council 4613 and a lifetime 4th degree Knight of Columbus. He was also a member of American Legion Post 0151 Campo Manfre Barbieri for over 58 years.

Victor’s brothers, Jasper Joseph DeMaria and Peter Thomas DeMaria, preceded him in death. His beloved wife, Edith Scardino DeMaria, and their children and grandchildren survive Victor. They are: Michele Brogan and David, and Carrie Ann and Daniel; Jasper Steven DeMaria and Laura, and Michaela, Victoria, and Jasper Joseph; Diane Palmer and Kelly, and William; and Anthony Thomas DeMaria and Rebecca, Nicole and Jessica. His sisters-in-law, Ann DeMaria and Edel DeMaria, also survive him.

He was a devoted member of Cure of Ars parish community where there will be a visitation on Thursday, December 4th from 10:00 a.m. to 11:00 a.m. followed by a Mass of the Resurrection at 11:00 a.m. at Cure of Ars Catholic Church, 9401 Mission Road, Leawood, Kansas.
