Vicky Louise Catherine Ludwigs Hohlbaugh, passed away on May 7, 2024, after a long battle with cancer. Her final moments were spent peacefully in her home in Independence, MO, surrounded by family and close friends.
Known for her nurturing personality and love for children, Vicky will be dearly missed by all who knew her. Vicky was born on March 24, 1956 in Akron, IA. She attended Akron Westfield High School and graduated in 1974. After graduation she worked for Zenith Corporation in Sioux City, IA. Vicky was united in marriage to John on September 30, 1978, at St. Patrick's Catholic Church in Akron, IA. They made their home in Lincoln, NE before ultimately settling in Independence, MO. Vicky took on the role of Day Care Director at Nativity of Mary Grade School where she touched the lives of countless children and their families over the course of 12 years. After her grandchildren were born, she devoted most of her time to them, and was lovingly referred to by them as "Monney Vicky". Vicky enjoyed watching the Game Show Network, the Hallmark Channel (especially with her two daughters at Christmas time) and laughing for hours in coffee shops and cafes with family and friends. She had an incredible sense of humor and continued cracking jokes until her final moments (those closest to her will laugh fondly for years to come about her "letting us off the hook"). Vicky and her husband John enjoyed traveling together and made amazing memories in their motorhome while affectionately referring to each other as Deer and House.
Vicky’s family asks that she be remembered for the joy she brought to others in life not the sadness of her passing. She is survived by her husband: John Hohlbaugh of Independence, MO; daughters: Laura Hohlbaugh of Independence, MO and Amy Wiatt (Jacob) of Wentzville, MO; six grandchildren: Colten and Corinne Boulware of Independence, MO, and Arlo, Adalee, Ayla, and Archer Wiatt of Wentzville, MO; sister Jeannie (Roger) Frerichs of Akron, IA; and brother-in-law Jerry Beazley of Cherokee, IA. Vicky is preceded in death by her parents Gerd and Phyllis Ludwigs of Akron, IA; sister Pamela Beazley of Cherokee, IA; and numerous other beloved family members.
