Verdele W. Johnson, 80, of Olathe, KS passed away November 19, 2021. He was born July 12, 1941 to James and Marjorie Johnson in Moberly, MO on his grandma’s kitchen table. He moved to the Kansas City area and graduated from Northeast High School in 1959. He went on to join the United States Air Force, where he would further his education, having spent from 1963-1967 in the service. After the Air Force, Verdele moved to Florida to begin working at Kennedy Space Center as an Astronaut Rescue Specialist from 1969-1975. He also enjoyed 15 years of doing landscaping for a golf course while he lived in Florida. Verdele moved back to Kansas City in 2018 to be closer to his family. His love for golf continued, as well as his love to travel the country.
Verdele is preceded in death by his parents; sister Marcella Faulds; brother-in-law Thomas P. O’Hara; and nephews Thomas P. O’Hara, II and Deacon Thibault. Survivors include his sister Patricia (O’Hara) Schaberg and her husband Kim; nieces Michelle Kooiman (Bill), Kristine Woods (Jim), Stephanie Thibault; and Tricia Lunson; nephew Michael Thibault, along with numerous great nieces and great nephews.
Funeral services will be held 2pm, Saturday, November 27, 2021 at Floral Hills Funeral Home, 7000 Blue Ridge Blvd, Kansas City, MO 64133. Burial in Floral Hills Memorial Gardens.
