Velma had a very happy childhood, growing up on the family farm in Cowell, Arkansas, the youngest of her four siblings. It was at the Cowell Christian Missionary Alliance Church where Velma gave her life to her Lord and Savior, Jesus Christ, and was baptized.
Velma and her sisters moved from Arkansas to Kansas City, where she met Billy E. Stewart, the love of her life, whom she was married to for 57 years.
Velma worked at Kansas City Life Insurance as Head Cashier, managing a staff of employees. She loved her career at Kansas City Life and stayed there for many years, until her retirement.
Velma was a member of Kansas City Baptist Temple (Graceway) for over 60 years, spent a lot of time volunteering, and was in church almost every time the doors were open! She especially enjoyed teaching Sunday School to the children.
Velma was close to her family and enjoyed spending time with them especially her sisters, Velora Holt, Myrtle Hull and Betty Bennett, as well as her niece Ruthie Wornall, great-niece Desiree Wornall-Rivas, and her great-nephew John Wornall.
Velma went into the presence of the Lord on Oct 19, 2023, at the age of 92, and is now enjoying her eternal reward. She is survived by her great niece Desiree Wornall-Rivas, her great nephew John Wornall, and her great-great-niece Jasmine Wornall-Rivas, great-great-nephews Derek Wornall-Rivas and Oscar J. Preciado II, and many other great-nieces and great-nephews.
