Timothy John Shramek was born on October 3, 1949 to Joe and Mary Margaret (Mulgrue) Shramek in Lincoln, Nebraska. He moved to Prairie Village with his parents and older brother, Jay, when he was just seven months old. Tim remained in Prairie Village throughout his childhood attending school at St. Ann's and Curé of Ars. He went to high school at Rockhurst and then received a tennis scholarship to Saint Louis University where he received his B.S. in Electrical Engineering, graduating in 1971. He returned to Kansas City where he was employed as an engineer with Southwestern Bell/AT&T. After his retirement, he spent 16 years as a tax examiner with the IRS.
Tim enjoyed a fun and interesting childhood with his brother and his twin sisters. Along with his family, he traveled regularly, visiting the Nebraska relatives and vacationing in Colorado and California. He has always been interested in sports, playing a lot of CYO football and basketball, 3&2 baseball and tennis. Homestead Country Club was his first tennis home where he developed both his game and many lifelong friendships. He remained a faithful Billikens fan and became an ardent fan of the Chiefs, Royals, and Jayhawks (except when they were playing the Billikens). Tim was a long-time member of the Kansas CIty Ski Club, winning a number of awards for his downhill racing prowess and continuing to make new friends.
Tim met Joanie Duethman, also a Kansas City native, and they discovered that they had many friends and interests in common. They became more than just friends and were married on February 3, 1996 at Visitation Catholic Church. Tim and Joanie were blessed with beautiful twin daughters, Anna and Maddie, truly loves of his life; they all adored each other.
Unfortunately, Tim suffered from declining health for more than five years, but he handled his increasing limitations with strength and grace; he never complained or sought sympathy or special treatment. He loved to be outside and frequented many local parks with his sisters. He was a kind, gentle and caring soul throughout his life.
Tim was preceded in death by his parents, Joe and Mary Margaret, and is survived by his wife, Joanie; his daughters, Anna and Maddie; his grandson, Roman Timothy; his brother, Jay; and his sisters, Micki Altenbernd (Bart) and Marnie Robinett (Tom); and many nieces and nephews.
